Single Speed New England 2019

August 10 & 11 Wompatuck State Park

Last year I attended Single Speed USA (SSUSA) in Port Jervis, NY with some buddies from RideYourAssOff (RYAO) and Back Of The Pack Racing (BPR). Unfortunately I couldn’t partake in the bicycle festivities as I was freshly coming off of an ankle injury, but SSUSA left a lasting impression.

SSUSA is one of those events that changes location each year. SSUSA is in Texas this year, sorry but Texas in August does not sound comfortable. I start melting at 76 degrees. That’s besides the point. New England has a great single speed following and amazing riding, so why not have a dedicated single speed event?

Now, I’m still waiting on a few key details (like the BikeReg link, but that will be coming soon) but I am proud to announce Single Speed New England (SSNE) 2019.

SSNE 2019 will be taking place at Wompatuck State Park in Hingham, MA on August 10th and 11th. That’s a Saturday and a Sunday, and yes this is a 2 day event. Wompatuck is known for their amazing Land Mine mountain bike race, but not only does Wompatuck provide great trails, camping is also available!

So here’s a quick breakdown on how the 2 day event is going to play out… well, for the race. Saturday is going to be more of a fun ride where time bonuses will be awarded for completing certain task, finding things, at random, yada, yada, yada. Sunday will be the actual race; and those time bonuses you acquired on Saturday will be used on your overall time. This way is designed to level the playing field, make it a bit more fun and so I can see how much madness I can get away with.

The cost of the event is going to be $85 and there will be men and women categories. Prizes are still to be determined, but from who I have been talking to, prizes are going to pretty damn good.

SSNE already has some great support from some really great names in the mountain bike community. Stay tuned for more information. If you are interested in being part of SSNE please feel free to reach out to me via email or hitting me up on social media. Cheers.
